More bathroom progress.

Just one photo for you today.   The wallpaper and flooring are in place but the panelling hasn't been stuck down yet.   I just had to see what it all looked like!

I know it's a bit bright for a Victorian bathroom but the story in my head says that as the Admiral wasn't keen on devoting a whole room to this new fangled bathroom idea he divided a larger room in order to keep the other half for storage.   Her Ladyship, Mrs Admiral, on the other hand is a very forward thinking woman of her time and decided that if he was getitng his own way with the size of the room, then she was getting her own way with the decor.

As the paper is printed off from a printie (very handy if you miscalculate and need more - just print it off!) and the fact that I haven't used this method before, I wasn't sure if the pattern would smudge despite the fact that I had used the spray fixative.   I was also a bit concerned with matching the pattern in such a small space if I decided to put the paper directly onto the wall.   In the end, I cut card templates, matched the pattern and then put them on the walls. It seems to have worked and I'm happy with it.

  2. Hello Irene,
I love the color scheme! I don't think the bright colors take away from the victorian flavor at all. The wainscott is just stunning.
I can't wait to see more!

  6. Lookin' good, Irene! Love the colors --they were brighter originally but the passing years fades the pigments and so viewed today, we assume they were dull.

  7. Hi Irene, I think the colours really work, and your floor looks smashing!!

I thought of you while I was away on a little holiday in Sussex, as we stopped at a National Trust house on the way in Surrey called Clandon Park, which has some wall paper in one of the rooms almost identical to what you have used in the bathroom; I saw it and thought, oh! this is Irene's wall paper!! ;)

Look forward to seeing what is next!!

  9. Haha, I love the little story you've created about this. You were very wise to use the card template for the wallpaper, I use printed wallpaper for pretty much every room I do, usually I print onto light card rather than paper, easier to handle. As you say the huge advantage is that you can always print more if you need to. Also with the colour changing options for images on Word you can now produce matching style wallpaper in different colourways if you want, or change the colouring of a pattern you find that's not in the right colour - very handy!

    1. Norma, Thank you. You've certainly given me some food for thought and I'll have to investigate printing off onto light card. Not done that yet. It also never occurred to me to change colourways (in fact, I didn't even know I could) so thanks for that little tip. Lots to keep me occupied now, trying all these little things out.

  10. Irene, I think your choice of paper and the red for the wainscot are Perfect! I LOVE the richer colors.... and the Victorians were more into color than we think... so I think you are "Spot on!" Can't wait to see how it all comes together with the "utilities" in place!

  11. Your bathroom has inspired me so much I'd like to try and imitate it (somewhat) in my house. I have made a reference to it & Hambleton House, I hope you don't mind. Your blog is unfailingly inspirational!
