Suggestions please.

These are the final three spaces to be filled in Hambleton Hall and I have a dilemma!   I thought I knew what I would be doing with them, namely a Nanny's Room, a Nursery and a Bathroom.   Now that it's time to start work, I'm not sure now.

These two spaces measure 6 1/2" wide  x 13 1/2" deep by 8" high (16.5cms W x 34.3cms D x 20.3 H).   My initial thoughts were - Nursery leading through to Nanny on the far left - ok so there's not a lot of space but she is a servant after all and babies don't take up that much space (at least not in my world!).

I hadn't planned to have a door leading through - just a curtain.

The room to the far right was going to be the Bathroom.   It's a decent enough sized space at 10 1/2" wide x 13 1/2" deep x 8" high (26.7cms W x 34.3cms D x 20.3cms H) and it would allow me to have some furniture in there along with the bathroom suite.

Then I thought I could combine Nanny with Nursery and have them both in this room with a small bathroom and storage space leading off situated in the rooms on the far left.

I've thought about this for so long and dithered about so much I'm confusing myself so if anyone has any bright ideas, I'd love to hear them.   Thank you!

  1. I think attics and storage rooms can be so much fun to make and fill - lots of scope for using up those odd bits you really didn't find space for elsewhere... so if it were my house I'd put baby in with the nanny and leave space for storage. I'm sure whatever you decide will look absolutely wonderful though. Judith x

  2. You could make one of them the Nanny/Baby room, another one the bathroom and that would leave you with a spare room left over. Four rooms for the price of three :D

  3. I think a bathroom would be nice and a storage room too. For the third room, why not a guest room?

  4. My thoughts go along with Judith's, but that is because I love attics where you can place all those stashed away pieces that keep accumulating.
I am sure this house will be a show piece.

  5. Hola!!

  6. Hello Irene,
Would you consider using the 2 small rooms for a day and a night nursery. The Day nursery could be used for playing and schooling, and the night nursery for sleeping and dressing.
The big room might be a good size for a servant bedroom. I'm sure you could put 2 or three in the room.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
    Have a wonderful weekend,

  7. Goodness, Irene. I'm the last person to be able to make decisions! I like the ideas you originally had though. I don't know how you manage to keep up your 3 wonderful Blogs - I barely manage mine LOL.
I know you'll make the right choice in the end.

  8. Hi Irene! You're bound to get more suggestions than you need this way! I think that unless you really like doing bathrooms... you could "hint" at one behind a door on the back part of one of the smaller rooms.... the front part could be Nanny's room. That leaves you the Nursery in the larger room... lots of room for multiple beds and toys... and the Attic in the last small room... Older houses didn't have bathrooms the way we do now.
If you REALLY like doing bathrooms and children's Nursery.... the Nanny room could be at the back of the larger room and the bathroom and attic in the two smaller rooms...
See, we're all just getting you MORE confused!
I can't wait to see what you do!

  9. I think we need a list of what rooms you already have. :)

  10. I love the idea of a attic storage area, I am doing this in Somerset House, making it very dark and gloomy with loads of items in, a chance to add things you would not put in the main house, I have also decided to have a maids room, which would be small and simple, my last space I am having at the nursery, but will beds in, have a cot and an older child's bed, not really interested in toys. Being up so high, I feel it's better to keep things simple in rooms and fun in the storage space.

  11. Stick with your original concept, Irene, otherwise you will make yourself crazy. But whatever you decide, no doubt it will amaze!
